Who would have thought that caring for pets could be lucrative? The fact is, over 66.8 million U.S. households own one or more pets and the demand for specialized pet care services out paces the supply of professionally trained operators. In 2013, Americans spent over $55 billion on their pets – more than what they spend on movies, video games and listening to recorded music combined. By 2017 this number is projected to grow to over $75 billion. This demand is projected to increase exponentially every year as pet owners find themselves working longer hours, travelling more for business and personal reasons, looking for alternatives to crowded kennels and boarding facilities, independent sitters, online directories, friends and family, and generally spending more on their furry family members.
